Well, sorry for the delay in postings on my blog.I have heard from a few of you that you were disappointed that it had not been updated yet . . . shall I remind you of the first posting . . . we still don’t have internet at home fully! The good news is that I got my iPhone so now at least I can check email regularly and talk to Ian when I need to.I love my iPhone! I have yet to figure out how it works completely but so far so good!
Anyhow, life has been very exciting lately. We had a great visit with Ian’s mom, MaryAnn, and sister, Erin.We spent the first weekend they were here in Edinburgh, visiting the castle and walking thru the Royal Mile. The Edinburgh castle is still completely in tact, which is odd because it is so old and a lot of the castles here are in ruins to some degree. They have made the castle into a collection of museums basically and you can walk throughout most of the castle. It was very beautiful and very rich with history. The castle looks out onto the city, which is a fabulous view of Edinburgh.I have attempted to post a few pictures of it.
We also took a Ghost and Ghouls tour of the city at night because it is believed that Edinburgh is one of the most haunted cities in the UK.The hauntings are thought to be a result of all of the conflicts and diseases that have taken so many lives in the area surrounding the castle.Part of the tour takes you to the Vaults beneath the city and the guide tells you some of the stories of people who occupied the vaults underground.I highly recommend taking this tour if you are ever in Edinburgh, because it was very interesting to hear the legends of the ghost town. And if you go in the summer as we did, it remains light until around 11:30 or midnight, so no need to be afraid of the ghosts in the dark!
On our second day in Edinburgh we visited the Royal Palace of Holyroodhouse, which is where the Queen stays when she visits. It is quite beautiful and I think I enjoyed learning about the Palace and the Royal legacy more than visiting the castle.
Edinburgh is a fabulous place to visit and we barely scratched the surface of all of the things to do and see while we were there.Good news is that it is only a 2 hour drive from our house so we can go for a weekend trip whenever we would like to!
