Life goes on . . .

Lately I haven't been posting to my blog because I didn't feel like I had too many exciting things to report. Life has created some sort of normalcy here for us in Aberdeen. I think it is good that we have finally settled in and feel at home here. Well . . . not completely at home as we don't have all of our family, friends, dogs, or belongings here. But as much as we can feel at home given the situation. Anyhow, then I realized you all might like to read about those things of normalcy in our life in Aberdeen.

Of course, Ian has been traveling a good bit for work. He has been to the middle east, London, Glasgow, and Franklin all in the past month. I was pretty jealous when I found out that he was going to Franklin. He had to work while he was there, but also got to enjoy the fact that he was with so many of his good friends and family. It was a short trip, so don't be offended if he didn't get around to visiting you while he was in town.

Unfortunately within three days of his return to Aberdeen, he was on the same flight back to Nashville. My grandfather passed away and we came back to Nashville to be with family. Again it was a short trip, but I think it provided a good distraction for all of us to be together.

And now we are planning our extended trip back to TN for the Thanksgiving Holiday. Hopefully we will get to spend time with everyone while we are there. It will be a hectic time for us, but I can't wait! I am so eager to see everyone and I know Ian is as well. Also we will be bringing Grace back with us so there is another benefit of our return.

Speaking of dogs, Oscar has really taken to life in Scotland. I wouldn't go so far as to say that he enjoys the rain or cold, but he enjoys being with us. We take him to the park and let him run on the sunny days. Just this weekend we brought him to Balmedie Beach for his first glimpse of the ocean. I was worried he might try to drink the water, but one lick of it and he stayed far from it. I guess it was a little too salty for his taste too! Otherwise he absolutely loved the beach!!!! We played until he gave us the look that said "I am tired and ready to go home".

Most days Oscar spends a good bit of it looking out our front window and watching all of the people, cars, and dogs that go by. He especially likes to bark at the mailman and all of the neighbors. I think it is his version of a movie theater. Here is a picture of him in his normal spot.

I am still working and that is going well. I enjoy working with my old friends in Brentwood and it keeps me busy. And with Ian traveling so much I have been reading a lot. Well, a lot doesn't even describe it. I have discovered the Twilight series in the past week and it is pretty much like crack to me. I can't get enough and I don't want the stories to end. I know if you haven't read them you might be a skeptic like I was before I started the first one. But once you start, you can't stop. Anyhow, I am currently on a 24 hour break (mandatory as per my self preservation) before I start the third book in the series. There were several books before Twilight as well that kept me sucked in. I think something about staying curled up in a blanket in the cold weather and reading is so heavenly! At least it is my idea of a heaven. Well enough about that other than to say if you have any good books to recommend, please send them my way. Here is another for you to add to your list if you have already read the Twilight series, "The Monsters of Templeton" by Lauren Groff. It was a very different book and I really enjoyed it.

Enough babbling on for now . . .

  1. I'm so sorry to hear of your grandfather's passing Amber. My prayers go out to you and your family. I'm glad you were able to come home and be with your family though.

And you're right there is something about curling up with a book when it's cold outside!

Glad things are going well, hope to see you guys around Thanksgiving! Love you guys and stay safe!
