After an almost 3 week trip to Tennessee for Thanksgiving, Ian and I are back in Aberdeen. We had a great visit home! We spent the majority of the trip with family celebrating Thanksgiving and Christmas (a little early). We also got to spend some time with a few friends. We ran out of time to see everyone on our lists, so next time we are in town we will try to make it up to those of you that we missed on this trip.
My parents have made a tradition of taking the family to Gulf Shores, Alabama every year for the Thanksgiving holiday. Ian and I were able to go again this year and it was a blast! We played on the beach, went swimming (in a heated pool), ate lots of yummy food, and played many games. It was a great trip and I am looking forward to going again next year.
We got to spend some quality time with Ian's parents and sister in Nashville. They cooked us some greatly missed family recipes, played games and went to the movies with us. We enjoyed every minute of our time with them.
While we were in town I had the job of getting Grace ready to fly to Aberdeen. It is a complicated process and requires a couple of trips to the vet. She kept me pretty busy during the days, but luckily she was easily cleared for travel. The day we left from Nashville, we had to drive Grace to Atlanta Airport for her flight and I left from there as well. Ian had to stay in Nashville for work for another week, so I was on my own for the flight home. I made it to Aberdeen with only the slight complication of delayed luggage, which was lucky because there was some terrible weather in Atlanta. However, Grace got stuck overnight in London, which was very unexpected. I am still not quite sure why she got stuck, but I am looking into it. Anyhow, she made it the next day just fine!
Grace and Oscar remembered each other immediately and starting playing like they had never been apart. It was great to see and such a relief because I was pretty nervous about how the reunion would go. They are like two peas in a pod now, doing everything together. Now we have our full family of four here in Aberdeen and we feel much more complete.
For Christmas this year, Ian and I are renting a home in the countryside of Perthshire a couple of hours drive from Aberdeen. We are taking the dogs with us and are planning to enjoy the holiday in the quiet seclusion of the countryside. There are some great country walks in the area that we can enjoy with the dogs. We saw this year as an opportunity to do something really different to celebrate Christmas. Since we are going to be away from our family, we decided that we should treat ourselves to a short Scottish getaway! We are really looking forward to it!
Ian and I really enjoyed seeing everyone in Tennessee. Thanks to all of you for making time to see us! We miss and love you all.
Have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
